- Bake cookies. Baking cookies is not only a holiday tradition in my family, but it’s also great fun for the kids to help. It’s good for kids to keep learning new things and to help out around the house, and baking cookies is a fun kitchen chore. Have your kids sit on the kitchen counter bar stools around your island or by the counter, and give them each a task toward making the finished cookies. Once you have finished, have the kids help you clean the dishes and pans, so that they know that even though cookies are great fun to make, clean up is also required with any cooking venture.
- Make hot chocolate and have a game night. There’s nothing better to warm everyone up than hot cocoa, and it just makes you feel all warm and fuzzy. Combine this with fun family games, and you have memories in the making! Playing games is a great way to keep everyone entertained and laughing indoors when it’s too cold to go outside. Popular games in my family include charades, because it gets you up and moving and it’s so funny for us to act for each other, and games that challenge the brain like Scrabble or Trivial Pursuit.
- Do an Arts & Crafts afternoon. Go ahead and pull out all your fun construction paper, scissors, pipe cleaners, markers, and any other art supplies you have and do a fun arts and craft table at your kitchen table or around the kitchen island on the bar stools. Encourage your family’s creative side with these projects, challenging everyone with specific craft to complete, or to come up with their own unique piece. Whether you want to make Christmas tree paintings or try some fun origami with the brightly colored paper, an arts and crafts afternoon session is just the ticket for curing those indoor winter blues!
