To avoid this extra tension, it is possible to do a home pregnancy test. Depending on your drug regime, some pregnancy tests may react to some of the drugs used in your treatment. Or they may not be sensitive enough to detect an early pregnancy. So you need to ask your clinic to recommend a reliable brand. It is important that you report the results of the test to the clinic. Even if your home test is negative they may still want to carry out their own. If it is positive they will want to confirm the results after a few weeks with an ultrasound scan.
A positive test is still not the end of the story. Usually a pregnancy is not finally confirmed until supported by an ultra¬sound scan three or four weeks after the initial test, at what would normally be the seventh or eighth week. If there is a viable pregnancy, it is likely that the foetus can be seen quite clearly on the scan. It is possible for the foetus to be detected earlier on ultrasound, although it is not as distinct and it might not be possible to determine whether it is developing normally.
