As a Burlington Chiropractor I am consistently asked many questions by patients and the general public pertaining to my practice of Chiropractic. Chiropractic practice is simple to me, unlocking the bodies inborn abilities is how I view it! This is what many Chiropractors refer to as 'Innate Inteligence'; and what many of us 'use' to help our patients improve in many different aspects of life.
Today I would like to address a question that a patient asked me just yesterday.
"How old was that baby you were working with? And what were you doing for them?"
To this I had to explain to my patient what the goal of Chiropractic is again. We strive for the optimal spinal alignment, to allow for proper functioning of the nervous system. Whether someone is 8 days old or 80 years old, we still need a fully functioning nervous system.
The majority of children I see in my practice are there for a 'Well baby check-up'; meaning they have no current problems just that the parents are there to see if there is anything at the spinal level that may have been missed previously. In the past I have found conditions which have gone undiagnosed previously. In one case we found that a young boy had a broken clavicle (collar bone) from birth trauma. Other cases have shown signs of hip problems that were later confirmed to be congenital hip abnormalities.
Many patients who understand my goal in practice will bring their young ones to me for other common conditions; such as chronic ear infections, scoliosis, colic and many more.
That question is usually followed up with...
"Is an adjustment safe for a baby or child?"
Absolutely Yes!
The way in which I treat a child is using very light pressures early on. The type of adjustment an adult receives is completely different from that of a child. We have the same goal in mind as with the adults, but a different approach. Often with toddlers it involves lifting them up in the air to adjust them.
Best of all... kids have fun when we do the adjustments. I try to make it into a game with them! They have fun, but they also improve. The adjustments are only part of the fight, as we also encourage changes in the daily routine or in diet and exercise where applicable.
So whether it is for just a mini check up, or for treating a condition that has become a nuisance. Chiropractors are here to help!
Give Chiropractic a try! Not just for yourself, but for your whole family! You may see results in areas you had never even considered possible!
We're here to help!
