It's inevitable that your baby is going to have his or her first tooth come in very soon. This can be a painful process both for the baby and for the parents who want to make their child more comfortable and not be in so much pain. What are the signs of teething?
Most of the time children won't start to teeth until around six or seven months of age. Some happen sooner or later, but keep those dates in mind. This is because many of the signs of teething are also the symptoms that you baby could be sick or have another problem.
Look at the baby's gums. Generally when teeth are coming in, you can see the gum swelling a bit where the tooth is starting to come in. This is a bit later in the process but this is a sure way of knowing what the issue is.
The baby will become cranky and fussy much more than usual. This is because the pain is causing him or her to lose sleep and is frustrating.
Your baby will have much more drool than normal. He or she might also be touching the face, cheeks, and even ears more than normal. At times this can also be a sign of an ear infection.
He or she will start chewing on everything much more than usual. This is to get relief from some of the pressure and helps the teeth come in better.
As a result of chewing on everything, your baby will have more fevers and colds during this time. This is because they are coming in contact with more germs from putting everything in their mouths.
If you aren't completely sure if it's teething or not, it's definitely a sickness. It's best to go see a doctor to make sure there aren't other issues that need to be dealt with like infections.
