Most children worry about going to school unprepared so it's important to check through everything with them before they go to bed the night before. You will need to go through the school bag and ask them if they need any special items for a special project they maybe doing. Have they got PE the next day if so you will need to get their kit ready and packed into their PE bag as well. Don't forget to get the school uniform prepared and laid out for the next morning.
It is vital that your child gets a good nights sleep so ensure they have a set time that they go to bed. If they cannot sleep allow them to read a book for a while to make them drowsy but never let them watch television in their bedroom as this stimulates the brain and can make it difficult to unwind and relax.
If you child can tell the time why not give them their own alarm clock so they wake at the same time every morning and have a little responsibility for themselves. Most children thrive when given a little trust by their parents.
Make sure you leave for school in plenty of time as they do not enjoy getting into school and straight into lessons. They will want to chat with their friends for a while and if they don't have the time before school starts they will talk in lessons instead leading to discipline issues.
A good idea is to have a memo board in the kitchen specifically for your child to write down notes to remind both of you of any special trips, classes or after school activities that are coming up. This will help keep you both on top of matters and reduce stress levels for both of you.
